I．はじめに

　Hakim, Adamsら（1964，1965）によって正常圧水頭症の概念が提唱されて以来，正常圧水頭症は多くの人々の注目を浴びてきた．しかし，その原因疾患は，くも膜下出血，頭部外傷，脳腫瘍，髄膜炎，脳手術後状態等，種々であり，したがってその頭蓋内病態も種々のものが含まれ，shunt術の効果も症例によって異なる．正常圧水頭症に対するshunt術の効果を術前に判定するための種々の工夫が行われてきたが，いまだ手術効果を的確に予知することはできない．そこでわれわれは，正常圧水頭症に対する病態把握とshunt術効果の判定法の1つとして，脳室内infusion testを施行し，volume-pressure relationshipの種々なる検討を行い，いくらかの知見を得たので報告する．

Continuous monitoring of the intracranial pressure and ventricular infusion test were carried out in 13 cases in which normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) was suspected. The infusion test was performed by intraventricular bolus injection of 8ml of saline. The result was collated with the effect of shunting operation, which was judged by means of the improvement in the clinical symptoms and the amplitude of contingent negative variation.
