Ⅰ．はじめに

　脳幹部の孤在性膿瘍は，きわめてまれな疾患であり^6,7,10），生前に診断されることも少ない^2,12,16）．文献的にはWeickhardtらのすぐれた報告^16）があるが，これを含めて今までに40数例の報告^{1,2,9,11-15）}があるにすぎない．ここに述べる症例は第3脳室，中脳水道および第4脳室周囲に存在した膿瘍であり，臨床診断が困難であった，ここに臨床と剖検所見を述べ，本症例の特徴と本疾患の問題点について老察を加える．

An autopsy case of brain stem abscess was reported. The patient was a 5-year-old boy who had had fever for three weeks. Ptosis of the left eye appeared three days and dilatation of the left pupil and drowsiness one day before admission. He was transferred to us with impairment of consciousness and choreic movement of the left upper and lower limbs. He had had abscesses in the upper eye lids 9 months previously. On admission, the temperature was 38.2℃ and mild systolic heart murmur was audible without cyanosis.
