　深部脳波記録がてんかんの臨床に用いられるようになって約30年になるが，その間この方法は側頭葉てんかんの分野で最も大きな貢献をなしたといってよいであろう。

　薬物治療に抵抗性の，いわゆる難治性てんかんの症例で，側頭葉内側部に焦点が考えられる場合，脳波上棘波が両側性であることは決して稀ではない。幸い発作時脳波が記録されても，多くの場合その初発部位は定かではない。

Summary

　The depth recording of electrical activity has made many contributions in the study of epilepsies, particularly those with temporal lobe foci. This paper deals with technical aspect of depth electrode implantation, characteristics of depth EEG, epileptic discharge and its propagation, and clinical manifestations in seizures, based on the author's experience in chronic experiments with monkeys and in the management of uncontrollable complex partial seizures. The data from 79 seizures in 6 monkeys with alumina cream focus in the amygdala and 67 seizures in 16 patiens were analyzed.
