神経免疫学序説—神経疾患病態における免疫の特殊性

Introduction to the neuroimmunology.

I．はじめに

　神経病学の発展の歴史をひもとくとCharcotを起点とする症候学の大きな流れに神経病理学，神経生理学，神経生化学などの手法が次々と導入され，今日の輝かしい神経病学の体系を形作ってきたといってよい。しかし今日なお，神経疾患といえば慢性難治性疾患の代表のごとくみられがちであり，従来のapproachではある程度限界にきていることも事実で，神経疾患の究明に対し新しい方向からのapproachが期待されている。

　一方，免疫学はPasteurを起点として主として感染免疫を中心に発展を遂げ，近年その進歩はめざましく，今や感染免疫，自己免疫という概念を越えて生体を統御する一つのシステムとしての働きが明らかにされた。したがってこの免疫学の輝かしい成果を神経疾患の究明に応用してみようとの試みは至極当然のことというべきであろう。私は1969年の本誌に"神経疾患の免疫学的接近"という題でこの問題を論じ，将来神経免疫学としての体系が完成されるであろうことを期待したが，その後すでに"神経免疫学"というタイトルの単行本や特集は数多く出版され，今やその学問的体系を整えるに至っている。

Abstract

The neurology and immunology are originated from Charcot and Pasteur respectively, who both lived in the same era of 18th century in Paris. With the progress of modern immunology, neuro-immunology has become one of the most impor-tant methods for the study of chronic neurological diseases. The pathogenesis of them has been elucidated by immunological method, among which myasthenia gravis is the most wellknown.
