Abstract

The possible participation of the complement system in the pathogenesis of various nervous disorders has been suggested in experimental animals and in man. In this review, current concepts in complement system were summerized mainly focusing on complement system in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

 The complement system consists of over 20 proteins which operationally constitute the classical (C1q, C1r, C1s ; C4, C2, C3) and alternative (Factors, B, D, C3) pathways, the terminal components (C5, C6, C7, C8, C9), and several regulatory proteins (C1 inactivator, Factors H, I, P).
