Ⅰ．はじめに

　電子顕微鏡技術の発達に伴い，自律神経をも含め神経終末部では，神経伝達物質がシナプス小胞（synaptic vesicle）と呼ばれる特殊な構造の中に貯えられていることが明らかとなった。Synaptic vesicleは神経細胞の細胞体で生成され，軸索輸送（axonal transport）によって終末部に運ばれて，ここに貯蔵される。

　電気生理学の実験から，脱分極刺激が神経終末部に到達すると，synaptic vesicleから化学伝達物質が放出されると考えられる。分泌刺激の到達から，分泌物の放出にいたる一連の過程は，一般にstimulus-secretion coupling^1,2）といわれ，膜イオン透過性の上昇によるCa infiuxの増加，あるいは細胞内の結合型Caの解離によって，遊離型のCaが増加することが原因となって，一連の複雑な放出メカニズムが始動されると考えられる。

　Release mechanisms of chemical transmitters of autonomic nervous system, acetylcholine and noradrenaline, are discussed in relation to exocytosis.

　Little is known about the final morphological events occurring at the site of transmitter release locating at the autonomic or the motor nerve terminals, though there present ample electro-physiological and biochemical evidences that the transmitters packaged in the synaptic vesicles are released by the mechanism of exocytosis.
