　視覚に関するイメージング研究は，不明な点の多かったヒト大脳皮質における視覚関連領野の同定を可能にした。各個人の視覚領野が同定されれば，ある視覚課題を行っているときに各々の領野がどのように活動しているのかを測定することが可能になる。現在，視覚のイメージング研究では，視覚刺激のパラメータを体系的に変化させ，各領野の入出力応答特性を調べるという，パラメトリックな研究が主流となりつつある。本稿では，まずその基礎となるレチノトピー（網膜部位再現）を利用した視覚領野を同定する（領野間の境界線を引く）方法について述べ，その後パラメトリックな研究方法がどのような利点をもち，今後どのように展開していくかを，いくつかの具体的な研究例をあげながら考察する。

　By virtue of the improvement of neuroimaging technique to demarcate the human visual cortical areas, it has been possible to measure parametric variations in activity of each visual area. The experimental paradigm of this parametric measurement of neural activity has been producing a vast collection of new findings which aid our systematic understanding of the visual cortical processing. In this article, we describe the current, standard method to delineate the human visual cortical areas, and review neuroimaging studies of illusory contour perception as a good example to consider how our knowledge of visual cortical processing has been extended by such recent parametric approach in neuroimaging.
