  • Look Inside

Neural representation of space is achieved by integrating information from multiple modalities. In humans and other primates, who are equipped with well-developed visual system, vision is especially important for spatial perception and cognition. Recent electrophysiological studies have shown that multiple sub-regions of the parietal cortex play different roles in the spatial information processing. This article gives an overview of the contribution of the parietal cortex to different aspects of spatial information processing, such as perception and cognition of the three-dimensional structure, motion, and location of an object, and the three-dimensional self-motion.
