　岐阜県久瀬村の65歳以上の全老人（342人）を8年間にわたって，通院治療，入院治療，終末期の状況などにつき追跡調査した．120人が死亡し，そのうち90人（75％）が自宅で死亡していた．死因は老衰，脳卒中，癌，心不全の順に多かった．また，252人（74％）の老人が慢性疾患を有し，高血圧が112人と最も多かった．入院を経験した者は145人（42％）であった．

In order to delineate the role of family physicians in medical practice for the elderlies, the author conducted a retrospective study using medical charts of all elderly individuals aged 65 or older in Kuze village (342 out of the total of 1925), a small town, for the period of 8 years (1982~1990).Diagnoses which made them visit clinics or hospitalized were identified as well as causes and place of death, and length of affliction. Results : 120 people died in this 8 year period and 75% of those chose to die at home. Senility was the leading cause of death followed by cerebral vascular accidents, cancers and heart diseases.
