　はじめに

　近年，化学療法の進歩に伴い深頸部膿瘍の発生頻度は低下しているが，成人病の増加などの関連もあり，特に救急外来を持つ施設においては深頸部膿瘍に遭遇する機会は稀ではない。本疾患はCT，MRIなど画像診断の向上で早期診断も可能となってきているが，緊急気管切開を要し術前検査が十分できない症例や，縦隔など広範に進展し致命的になる症例もあり，治療に苦慮する場合も少なからず経験する。われわれは，1987年5月から1996年6月までの9年間に37例の深頸部膿瘍を経験し，若干の検討を行ったので報告する。

Over the last 9 years, 37 cases of deep neck infec-tion were treated in our hospital. All cases developed abscess and underwent surgical treatment with a drainage. After the surgical treatment, anti-biotics were administerd locally and systemically. The causative bacterias were detected in 78% of these cases, and 44% were aerobic, 20% anaerobic bacteria. Fifteen patients received tracheostomy and 3 were died by sepsis.

Early diagnosis and complete surgical treatment were necessary for management of deep neck infec-tion. Computed tomography was useful for the diagnosis and treatment.
