はじめに

　頭頸部領域に原発を有する悪性腫瘍の遠隔転移は比較的少なくない。特に上顎癌は早期発見の困難さに加え，解剖学的に頭蓋内浸潤を生じやすく，生存率も低く，遠隔転移を論ずるには至らなかった。

　しかし，近年治療手技の向上により5年生存率もよくなり，それに伴なって遠隔転移を生じた症例をしばしば経験するようになった。

We report the clinicopathological study on the autopsied patients, who were treated in the Depart-ment of Otolaryngology, Shikoku Cancer Center Hospital during the 10 years' period from 1977 to 1986. Total number of autopsied cases in our department was 91, and 19 cases of nasal and paranasal malignant tumors are reported in thisstudy. Eleven cases of squamous cell carcinoma, 5 of non-squamous cell carcinoma and each one of rhabdomyosarcoma, liposarcoma and malignant melanoma were included.

Problems of treatment method, clinical outcome, double cancer, direct cause of death and lymph node metastasis were studied. Literatures regarding to the mechanism of metastasis were also reviewed.
