緒　言

　網膜細動脈硬化症の進行は高血圧症と密接に関係するものである事は，すでに多くの報告に述べられているが，加齢的因子の関与については，なお不明な点も多い^1）。

　今回著者らは網膜細動脈硬化症の加齢による進行の有無を明らかにする目的で初診時，軽度の網膜細動脈硬化症と診断された者について，経年的観察を行ない，若干の知見を得たので報告する。

In order to assess the changes in the caliber of retinal vessels over longer period, we mea-sured the caliber of retinal arteries and veins as well as the width of the arterial reflex streaks in 80 eyes of 55 cases followed up for 5 years or more. All these cases had been dia-gnosed, ophthalmoscopically, as retinal arterio-lar sclerosis of slight grade at the initial exa-mination.

Measurements were carried out on color fun-dus photographs by means of micrometer atta-ched to the light microscope. The data from the first and latest examinations were recorded for each case and were statistically assessed.
