Histochemical studies on corneal changes induced by corneal contact lenses

緒言

　従来の眼鏡の代りに，直接眼球に接触する屈折系を作つて視力障碍を改善しようとする試みが行われてから，すでに一世紀有半を経るという^21）。併しながらこれが実用的なcontact lens （以下C．L．）として広く臨床的に使用されるに至つたのは漸くこゝ数十年来のことである。その間，出来るだけ苦痛を少く，簡便に，長時間の装用を可能ならしめるためにC．L．の材質の研究，装着法の工夫，型の改良等が盛んに行われ，欧米に於いては数多くの使用経験，臨床諸統計が発表され，優れた専門書すら刊行されている。我が国に於いては，戦後漸く水谷豊氏によつてこの方面の研究が開拓され，次第に多数の賛同者を得て今日広く実用化されるに至つた事は周知のところである。近年，単に屈折異常の矯正に眼鏡に優る種々の利点が認められるのみならず，今日迄他の方法では企て及ばなかつた諸種の先天性竝びに後天性眼異常がC．L．の使用によつて救済の道が開かれるようになり，その上最近二，三の診断的応用も試みられ，更に着々とその適応範囲を拡げつつある。我が教室に於いてもすでに日常診療に不可欠な利器とすらなつている。然るにその普及がすすむ一方，これの誤用による角膜障碍例^{55）57）66）}の報告もまた屡々見られるようになつた。そこで若し我々がC．L．装用による角膜変化の実際を知り，その本態を究め得るならば，C．L．の使用法もおのずから定まり，臨床上にも益せられるところが多かろう。

Histochemical changes of rabbit cornea when a corneal contact lens had been put on it were investigated. Carbohydrate most fluctuated and glycogen on the epithelium began to decrease within 3 hours after putting on and after 24 hours the epithelium showed nega-tive reaction in PAS test while glycogen on the limbal region did not change. Changes of other substances were slight, namely decrease of RNA in epithelial cells and slight decrease of the Ninhydrin-Schiff reaction was observed. No change of reaction in the nuclei of the epithelial cells was observed.
