従来眼科の診察で眼を側面から診るという事は特殊の場合以外には余り行われていない。側面から診ることが必要なのは眼球突出度の計測をはじめ，主として眼球の位置の異常（眼球陥没，眼球萎縮）や角膜穹窿の異常（角膜拡張，角膜葡萄腫円錐角膜，扁平角膜）などの場合であつて，一般には患者の顔の側面から診察すれば事足りるのであるが，私は患者に正対した診察位置の儘で前眼部の側面を観察することが出来る簡単な装置を考案し，仮に「前眼部側診鏡」と称して日常の診療に使用しているので，此処に報告して諸賢の御批判御叱正を仰ぎたいと思う。
The new apparatus to examine the lateral side of eye in ordinal position was devised and called lateroscope temporarily. The new apparatus has two types. A type was composed of a plane mirror which was at angle of 45 with sagital plane at the lateral border of orbit and a convex lens of+5.0 D of which distance from the mirror was 16cm. The 1.25 magnification was obtained. B type was consisted of a convex lens of+11.0 D and a plane mirror and the distance between both was 4 cm. The magnification was 2.8.
