はじめに
重症の未熟児網膜症活動期病変に適切な時期に光凝固による治療を加えれば，ほとんど全例において完全な治癒が得られることは，われわれが1968年以来数回にわたって報告し，その後多くの追試によって確認された。
しかし治療法が明らかになったというだけでは，本症による失明例を根絶するという最終目標から程遠く，それまでに解決すべき幾多の問題が存在する。このうち特に重要なポイントをなすものは光凝固治療の適否の判定，ならびに治療実施時期の判定の問題である。
Statistical data for 5 years on the actual incidence rate of the acute retrolental fibro-plasia in the prematurity ward of Tenri Hos-pital were reviewed.
All infants were carefully controlled in res-pect of oxygen supply. Six cases among 211 alive premature infants (2.84%) developed se-vere progressive retinopathy which needed the treatment with photocoagulation.
All these cases showed complete recovery and left no cicatrical changes in the posterior region of the fundus.
The other 19 referred cases were also treated by photocoagulation.
