緒言

　兵庫県立こども病院にて，未熟児網膜症（以下網膜症と略す）に対し1971年2月にはじめての光凝固術を行なつて以来，1974年3月31日までの光凝固症例は54名（のべ119眼）に達している。

　現在まだ十分長期にわたる術後経過を観察し得ていないが，症例の87％が視力の予後については良いと推測される成績を得た。しかし，不幸にしてすでに盲あるいは重症視力障害にいたつた者もあり，手術の時期，適応，その他については，なお検討しなければならない問題が残つている。

Fifty-four premature babies with retinopathy of prematurity were treated by photocagulation during the period from February 1971 to March 1974.

Of these cases, 82% were operated on at the age equivalent to 36±4 weeks of gestation, i,e, the shorter the gestation, the later the o-peration was performed.

Forty-seven out of 54 babies (87%) were suc-cessfully treated and the further prognosis is expected favorable. However, one out of 18 act-ive stage II, one out of 31 active stage III and 5 active stage IV cases, totalling 7 cases, were hopeless in spite of photocagulation.
