I．緒言

　1813年，Benjamin Traversは搏動性眼球突出症について最初の報告を行い，本症を眼窩内の動静脈瘤（Aneurysma arteriovenosum）に依るものであると説明した。本症の原因として，海綿洞内に於る内頸動脈の破裂を初めて診断したのは，Nelatonであつて，この事実は後に剖検によつて確認された。

　本症に関しては，既に1920年，Sattler^1）がHandbuch der gesamten Augenheilkunde第2版に，実に352例の多数例について詳細に集録・検討している。本邦眼科領域に於ても，明治37年，丸尾^16）が最初の報告を行い，以後，河本・岡山^17），正^18）等の詳細な記載に相次いで，最近11年間（昭和25年以降現在迄）に21例の報告を見出す事が出来る。

Two cases of exophthalmos, without pulsa-tion, due to carotid-cavernous fistulas, are presented in this report. In one of these 2 cases, numerous miliary aneurysms in right temporal lobe as well as Sylvian vein were demonstrated on carotid arteriogram together with dilated superior ophthalmic vein. Ligat-ion of the common carotid artery was perfo-rmed on these cases with some improvement of the symptoms.

The authors reviewed and introduced recent knowledges of pulsating exophthalmos from the literature and perplexing problems of its treatment were explained and discussed in detail.
