1）いわゆる鼻性球後視束炎

　一般に，球後視東炎の原因は今日なお不詳といわなければならない。

　ところが，わが国で鼻性球後視束炎（＝鼻性球外視神経炎＝鼻性視神経炎^1）〜3））と診断されるものは，鼻腔もしくは副鼻腔にカタル性病変や慢性化膿性炎症などがあり，それが，球後視束炎の原因をなすと判断されているものである。

Many clinicians believe that the retrobulbar neuritis of the optic should be caused by nasal origin or paranasal sinusitis and that these retrobulbar neuritis should be succesfully cured by the treatments which were mainely directed toward the sinusitis.

But, according to the author's studies, there are many cases of retrobulbar neuritis which show a tendency of spontaneous functional recovery, although anatomically the resulting lesion of "neuritis" stands still in the optic pathway.
