The author described two cases of papilledema associated with arachnoiditis, and discussed on the differentiation from the retrobulbar neuritis.The reported cases were as following :Case 1. A boy, aged 16 years, complained of asthenopia and visual disturbance which increased gradually in both eyes for the last three months.He was admitted to the hospital on December. 28, 1953. There was moderate papilledema in each eye. The retinal veins surrounding the optic discs were dilated and tortuous.

The visual fields were not constricted and there were no central scotomas, but showed a enlargement of the blind spot and a sector defeat. Neurological examination and pneumoence-pbalograms did not add to the occular findings.
