　骨粗鬆性椎体骨折後偽関節に対して手術を行った116例の初期治療について調査を行った．ギプスや硬性コルセットは11.2％の症例にのみ行われていた．71.5％の症例で，受傷時に固定なし，あるいは柔らかい固定のみが行われていた．誘因なく，あるいは日常生活動作で発症した群では44.6％の症例で初期の外固定が行われていなかった．偽関節による手術例を低減させるためには，診断法を含め，椎体骨折に対する適切な初期治療体系を確立することが急がれる．

　We analyzed 116 cases of spinal pseudarthrosis that had been treated surgically to clarify the initial treatment for osteoporotic spinal compression fractures and problems associated with it.　Primary external fixation with a cast or a hard corset had been performed in only 11.2% of the cases.　No external fixation had been performed in 44.6% of the patients who had compression fractures without any obvious cause of injury.　An appropriate initial strategy that includes the diagosis of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures should be devised to reduce the number of cases of spinal pseudoarthrosis that require surgical treatment.
