As a basic study on the physiology of the cerebrospinal fluid, the following described experiments were performed on 24 dogs.

After the injection of I131 into the cerebro-medullar cistern, lateral ventricle and subar-achnoid space of the cerebral surface, the blood in the v. jug. ext. and sinus sagitt. sup. was obtained at one-minute intervals and its radioactivity was examined.

When I131 was . injected into the cerebro-medullar cistern and lateral ventricle, the blood in the v. jug. ext. soon showed high activity which got to its maximum peak within several minutes.

However, the radioactivity of the blood in the sinus sagitt. sup. increased gradually. Both activities reached almost the same level 15 minutes after the injection.

On the other hand, I131 injected into the subarachnoid space of the cerebral surface appeared promptly in the blood in the sinus sagitt. sup. and its peak was shown within several minutes, although the radioactivity in the blood in the v. jug. ext. increased gradually.

As stated above, I131 was found to move quite rapidly into the blood circulation in every part of the cerebrospinal space.
