　自殺に関する意識の高い愛媛県久万高原町において，若年者の自殺予防対策の一環として，中学生のメンタルヘルスの実態を明らかにすることを目的に，日本語版Profile of Mood States-Brief Formと日本版精神健康調査質問票を用いて調査を行った。町内全生徒220名から回答を得た。全体の傾向として，中学2，3年で精神的不調の訴えが多かったが，女子で特にその傾向が強かった。抑うつ感情は中学2，3年の女子が男子に比し有意に高く，自殺しようと考えたことがあると回答した生徒は男子9名，女子12名で計21名（9.5％）であった。自殺予防の観点から，特に中学2，3年女子に一定の配慮が必要であると思われた。今後，縦断的な自殺対策活動と支援体制の確立が必要である。

　The survey assessed the current status of mental health, particularly suicidal ideation, in Japanese teenagers. The Japanese versions of the Profile of Mood States-Brief Form and the General Health Questionnaire 30 were distributed to 220 school children living in the rural area of Ehime, Japan. Data were collected from all students (response rate：100%), and subsequently analyzed. Overall, the prevalence of mental problems, especially depressive problems, was significantly higher in girls who were in the second and third grade of junior high school. Suicidal ideation was observed in 9.5% of students (n＝21：9 boys, 12 girls). The accurate detection of suicidal ideation and the establishment of a mental health support system are vital to the prevention of suicide in teenagers.
