Psychiatric stress is one of the major causes of psychiatric disorders, such as depression and schizophrenia. However, not all who experience psychiatric stress develop these diseases. Whether one develops a psychiatric disorder depends on his or her stress vulnerability, which is a function of stress coping ability. Much progress has been made in the development of methods for measuring stress, and it is now possible to evaluate stress quantitatively. Given this, the necessity for a mathematical model for analyzing and predicting a measurement result is increasing. Thus, we devised and tested a stress coping model to determine the relationship between stress and stress coping ability. Results indicated that differences in stress coping ability impacted recovery from stress, and that stress level remained constant when stress coping ability decreased.
