　生理的状態にある肺胸郭間には自由腔がなく，肺側胸膜と壁側胸膜とが相接した状態にあるが，その胸腔内には肺胸郭のelastic recoil pressureに基づくtrans—pulmonary pressureよりmore negativeな圧が働いているとされている^1,2）。したがってpleural surface　pressureはCarsonらの定義^3）の様に単位面積当りの胸膜表面に加わる力とすれば肺胸郭のelastic recoil　pressureに基づく圧とは別に，まず，そこに内在するmore negativeな圧を考慮しなければならない。

　胸腔内の陰圧機構に関してはRist^4,5）らが胸腔内gasは組織内ガス圧，ひいては混合静脈血ガス圧と平衡に達するまで吸収されるが，その圧は−70cmH₂O前後の陰圧であると述べている。

We studied the relationship between pulmo-nary elastic recoil pressure and other forces acting on the pleural surface by use of the mechanical model.

Mechanical forces cause by the contact be-tween both side of pleural surfaces under the condition of more negative intra-thoracic gas pressure than the pulmonary elastic recoil pres-sure and act physiologically as an important factor regarded with the interaction between lung and chest wall.
