　中脳中心灰白質の刺激が血圧，心拍数を含めて，イヌおよびネコの循環系に与える影響に関しては，いくつかの報告がある^1）−3）。

　しかしながら，従来の研究は，単なる心拍数や血圧，あるいは心室収縮力の測定にとどまり，心拍出量，左室内圧，左室仕事量，tension-time-index^4）などのより興味ある心血行力学的パラメーターに対する影響は究明されていない。それゆえ著者らはこの点を検討すべく実験を行なった。

The hemodynamic effects of the electrical sti-mulation of the central gray stratum were studied in eleven mongrel cats. Left ventricular pressure, stroke volume (flowmeter), first derivative of phasic flow, stroke work, tension-time-index, and total vascular resistance were observed. Further-more the observations were repeated after giving atropine and propranolol.

The stimulation increased blood pressure and cardiac output remarkably with the elevation of total vascular resistance and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, but did not increase.
