要旨●病理診断は，消化管疾患の診療において重要な役割を果たしている．しかし，病理診断には検体の採取や提出，検体の作成，診断のプロセスなど，種々の限界が存在する．臨床医はそれらの限界について十分に理解したうえで検体を提出し，病理診断を読み解く必要がある．病理診断の限界を突破する鍵は，臨床医と病理医との連携と意思疎通である．

　Pathological diagnosis plays a crucial role in the treatment of the lower gastrointestinal neoplasms. However, pathological diagnosis has various limitations depending on the method of collecting and submitting samples, preparation of samples, and pathological diagnosis. Clinicians need to fully understand these limitations before submitting samples and interpreting the pathological diagnosis. The key to breaking through the limits of pathological diagnosis is cooperation and communication between clinicians and pathologists.
