　最近食道癌においても胃癌と同様に，癌浸潤が粘膜上皮ないし粘膜下層にまでしか及んでいないいわゆる早期食道癌の報告が増加しつつある．1970年2月現在，鍋谷は本邦早期食道癌28例を集計し，詳細に分析している¹⁾，筆者らも最近その1例を経験したので報告する．

　A 59 years old male complaining of foreign sensation upon swallowing Was admitted.

　X-ray and endoscopic examinations revealed a suspect of esophageal cancer in its early stage. At operation, a flat tumor was found in the upper thoracic esophagus. Histological examination showed infiltration of early cancer extending from the epithelial to the submucosal layers, but not to the muscle coat. Lymph node metastasis was negative. Review of 28 cases of early esophageal cancer so far reported in Japan shows that subjective complaints are more numerous than are anticipated, and they should provide an incentive for endoscopic examination. The outlook for its treatment is bright because of rapid progress in operative procedure, especially in esophageal reconstruction.
