Ⅰ．緒言

　ほんの数年前まで，唯一の直視下胃内観察法であった胃鏡検査はその技術の習得がなかなか容易でなかったし，また胃鏡が最後まで克服しきれなかった可撓性等の器械的制約の存在が，胃鏡を広く一般にまで行きわたらせなかった．

　ごく最近になってから胃内視鏡の勉強を始めた人達はもはや胃鏡を手にしてみる機会はほとんどないであろう．また胃鏡はおろか，胃カメラ，ファイバースコープですら観察盲点あるいは観察難点があってその克服にたいへんな苦労がつみ重ねられてきたということも，すでにピンとこないことかもしれない．

　Direct observation of gastric mucosa has been making a great progress by the development of fibergastroscopy. Above all, recent development of light-gide system in fibergastroscope will contribute so much in the future. Now, direct observation is becoming the minute diagnostics in its real sense of the words, and here we report the indispensable rules of observation for the accurate evaluation of minute changes. We insist especially on the importance of approached visual field even in the antrum where it has been rather easy to make the diagnosis.
