Diffuse plane xanthoma associated with multiple myeloma
Harada, Ken1)Kitamura, Hideo1) 1)Department of Dermatology, Aomori Prefectural Central Hospital
A 64-year-old male with multiple myeloma developed diffuse plane xanthoma (DPX) on his trunk and extremities;while the hands and feet and periorbital region were spared, about 85% of the entire body surface was affected. In Japan, DPX is rare, however, a significant association with hematological disorders has been observed. Most Japanese cases with DPX have monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). MGUS is associated with a high risk of multiple myeloma. It is important to consult a hematologist in patients diagnosed as having DPX.
