The new coronavirus infection COVID-19, first reported in Wuhan, is widespread worldwide. Gastrointestinal endoscopy is an aerosol generating procedure that can be a source of infection. It is considered a high-risk procedure for infection because viral RNA is also detected in gastrointestinal juices and feces. Except for an early report from endemic areas, after introduction of infection control measures such as preprocedure screening, wearing personal protective equipment and vaccinations, there are only a few reports suggesting the infection to the patients and staffs in endoscopy unit. Gastrointestinal endoscopy should be performed under strict infection prevention and control measures in SARS-CoV-2 pandemic era.
