 In order to specifically quantify the major Felis domesticus allergen, Fel d 1, we established an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)system. The working range of the established ELISA system for Fel d 1 was 100 to 6,400 pg/mL. The intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation for reproducibility were 1.5 to 2.8% and 0.9 to 3.0%, respectively. Moreover, the ELISA system showed no cross-reactivity against dog and dust mite allergens. We showed the practicality of the established ELISA system to measure Fel d 1 levels in the house dust samples. The established ELISA system would be useful not only for the measurement of Fel d 1 in the house dust samples for the prevention of appearance of cat allergic symptoms but also for various studies including industrial devices to reduce cat allergen level.
