The application of the Nuss procedure has been common in surgeries performed as a treatment for pectus excavatum because of its simplicity. One of the major goals of this treatment is to improve the patientʼs cardiac and respiratory function. In addition, patientsʼ desires usually include improvement of the chestʼs visual appearance, and we plastic surgeons naturally have this point of view (although other specialties may differ). Two of our patients were not satisfied with the results of simple Nuss procedures performed at other facilities and wanted to undergo a re-operation. Based on a description of these patientsʼ cases, we discuss the importance of patient goals regarding physical appearance after treatment for pectus excavatum.
