Gender identity disorder is a condition in which the sex of the body and the sex of the mind do not match. When the mind is male and the body is female, it is called female-to-male (FTM) gender identity disorder. Treatment includes psychotherapy, hormone therapy, and surgery. One of the surgical treatments for FTM is mastectomy. At present, there are no guidelines for the handling of excised mammary tissue. We experienced a case in which breast cancer (solid papillary carcinoma) was found incidentally in the excised mammary tissue of a 40-year-old woman. This report underscores the importance of pathological examination of excised mammary tissue to screen for breast cancer.
