Purpose

 This study aimed to examine the sympathy and perceived experiences of child abuse risk for midwives and nurses, and to examine of child abuse in the perinatal period.

Method

 The subjects of this research were 99 midwives and nurses in four maternity facilities in Saitama. The investigation items were attributes, a fact of care in lying-in period, being aware of child abuse, having experience or in perceiving the risk of child abuse, sympathy experience standard revised edition.

Result

 Nurses and midwives who obtain a high score in SISE tend to have more experience in perceiving child abuse.

Conclusion

 Nurses and midwives who can perceive others' thoughts without sympathy tend to effectively perceive the risk of child abuse. This could be attributed to the fact that nurses and midwives acquire the ability to perceive the risk of child abuse from their work experience in maternity wards.
