The purpose of this study is to explore family occupations, and how they can assist occupational therapists to practice family-centered therapy. Nine mothers of children with disabilities were interviewed about family occupations. Using the results, family occupations were characterized in terms of frequency and location. Development of family members, transformation of environment and positive perceptions were produced through family occupations. Family situations were related to both promotion and obstruction of family occupations. These results suggest that occupational therapists can focus on family occupations which support social participation and development of family members.
