The purpose of this study is to develop a tool in order to evaluate, objectively, the social behaviors of children with developmental disabilities in occupational therapy. Based on previous studies relating to the social interaction of children, we composed a new behavior categorical system with two aspects, MODE and FUNCTION, and assessed the behaviors of 7 children, 6 of whom had disabilities, and 1 was normal, at each treatment session. Each Inter-rater agreement between two raters was more than κ =.75 in all analyses. The comparative results of 2 children with disabilities showed the specific social behaviors of the children in the social interaction. Thus, this categorical system can be available for clinical use as a tool to evaluate the social behaviors of children with disabilities.
