We made an Evaluation of the Daily Executive Functions (E-DEF: draft) for elderly people with dementia. Our hope is to understand activities of daily living (ADL) abilities and the environment of the elderly with dementia.
We created a E-DEF (draft). We decided on criteria for the E-DEF (draft) as having 7 ADL factors and 4 intervention factors. The ADL factors were feeding, grooming, dressing, toileting, bathing transfers and movement. The intervention factors were environmental institution, watching, signs, behavior helping. We evaluated each elderly person with dementia to judge their level of independence in all categories under study. The object was to evaluate 22 elderly people with dementia. As a result of this study, three types of evaluations and E-DEF's (draft) total scores were examined. These include activities of daily living rates for handicapped elderly people, activities of daily living rates for handicapped elderly people with dementia and level of care needs. There is a relationship between the E-DEF's (draft) total scores and HDS-R scores.
We were able to understand ADL ability, elderly people with dementia's environmental and intervention factor's quantity by using the E-DEF (draft). The E-DEF (draft) was a useful evaluation instrument for studying the elderly with dementia.
Finally, when creating E-DEF (the final copy), we decided to modify the language to make it easier to understand.
