The purpose of this study was to classify the course of psychiatric occupational therapy for schizophrenic patients. We gathered the information concerning 136 patients' therapy process from medical records.

As a result, we were able to classify the following 4 groups :

 1) "interrupted group" (16.2%)

The patients in this group had occupational therapy as inpatients/outpatients in intervals.

 2) "continued group" (29.4%)

The patients in this group continued occupational therapy, long term. And there were few patients that continued occupational therapy while they repeated admission and discharge.

 3) "discharged group" (24.3%)

The patients in this group did not have to continue occupational therapy for about half a year.

 4) "concluded group" (30.1%)

The patients in this group were classified into subgroups.

One third of the patients repeated admission and discharge and then were finally discharged completely, and two thirds of the patients received occupational therapy as outpatients after they were discharged.

In conclusion, the patients in "the interrupted group" and "discharged group" have need of a new occupational therapy setting, and we must create a new therapeutic structure in occupational therapy.
