In recent years, the quality of life (QOL) of patients has become one of the most important subjects for medical workers. The Quality of Life Scale (QLS) was developed in 1984 by Heinrichs of Maryland Psychiatric Research Center. A Japanese language version was provided by Miyata and Fujii (1995). It is a QOL evaluation standard of QOL for patients with chronic schizophrenia who are living in a community. 33 patients with schizophrenia, attending the Kitasato university east hospital psychiatric day-care, were administered the QLS Japanese language version.
