Abstract : Aggressive rehabilitation is essential for enhanced recovery after surgery. Early rehabilitation is, however, invariably accompanied by severe pain. Patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) provides ideal pain relief for patients who underwent major trunk surgeries, which cause severe pain. Intensive PCEA also facilitates early and aggressive rehabilitation and provides enhanced recovery after open esophagectomy.
