Abstract : Prevention of locomotive syndrome is one of the urgent challenges facing Japanese society today. Various measures and enlightenment activities for its prevention are important, because locomotive syndrome causes motor functions to decline and it negatively impacts on one's mental health. Various efforts, including preventing locomotive syndrome itself, have been made for middle-aged and elderly people. In these days, however, children are also experiencing health problems such as the decline of physical strength, underweight or obesity. The results of medical examination of locomotive organs have confirmed that 10 percent of children show signs of musculoskeletal disorder or dysfunction. Because of their polarized amount of exercise, being either excessive or deficient, the growth and development of locomotive organs in children are being impaired. The medical examination of locomotive organs can detect abnormalities or dysfunction of locomotive organs in the early stage. We believe that prevention of locomotive syndrome as well as metabolic syndrome is made possible by supporting the healthy growth and development of locomotive organs, by taking preventive measures for locomotorium troubles in school age children, and by educating children about the importance of exercise and promoting awareness of locomotive syndrome from an early age.
