  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Vascular injury in arthroscopic surgery is a rare, but known complication. It has most often involved the popliteal vessels, such as the popliteal artery and genicular arteries after knee arthroscopy. The popliteal artery lies in close approximation to the posterior part of the capsule of the knee joint. The blind use of instruments into the posterior part could cause penetrating injury of the popliteal artery during arthroscopic surgery such as meniscectomy. If an injury to the popliteal artery is suspected, immediate consultation with a specialist in vas-cular repair is mandatory.
