This is a 400-bed community hospital near Tokyo. The intensive care unit (ICU) has 8 beds where perioperative patients, inpatients with sudden deterioration, and critically ill patients from the emergency department are treated. The ICU is a “semi-closed ICU”, which includes cooperation with specialists. In this section, we introduce how the ICU interprofessional team managed a patient with difficult decision-making. Even for patients for whom decision-making is difficult, it is possible to provide optimal decision-making by repeating interprofessional conferences and shared decision making with family members.
