Message from a Phenomenologist to Japanese Nurses

　First of all I wish to say thanks to Dr Teruko Takahashi for inviting me to write a foreword ―a small opening article― to the following lectures of Dr Giorgi and Dr Parse.

　Originally I was asked to deliver a lecture too, but my age has made that impossible.

　I have been twice a guest lecturer in Japan. Both times for six weeks and I cherish such an overwhelming fine memory of these visits that I would have liked it very, very much to show my wife as much as possible of that beautiful, charming ―and difficult to understand!― country of Japan! Dr Takahashi will understand that easily, and to give me a consolation prize, she invited me to write a small foreword, forgetting, I fear, that in writing this foreword, my regret not having visited Japan for the third time (and with my wife), will only grow!
