  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

This article, the third in the series entitled "Diagnostic Clinical Parasitology", contains information on the problems and pitfalls*1 encountered in identification of the diagnostic stages of intestinal flatworms and roundworms. The usefulness of special procedures is reviewed and atypical appearance of some eggs is described. A summary on specimens to be examined and routine methods of examination is presented in tabular form for each helminth*2 parasite.

As in the two previous articles, the material is not intended to*3 be a compendium of all available information, but to emphasize pitfalls and practical tips*4 for laboratory personnel involved in diagnostic laboratory work. It is important to realize the necessity of having good parasitology textbooks and reference materials to facilitate*5 specific diagnoses. The use of a calibrated microscope*6 is also a prerequisite for accurate diagnostic work.
