2008年に本邦で子宮頸部細胞診報告様式にベセスダシステム2001が正式採用されることがアナウンスされ，検診や日常の診療に定着しつつある．さらに，発癌性HPVジェノタイプの中で，上位13種類の高リスク型HPVのスクリーニングを簡便に可能にしたHPV一括スクリーニング検査は，ASC-US(atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance)症例の運用に重要な役割を果たしている．さらに，ハイリスクHPVジェノタイピング検査が，組織診で確定したCIN1/2の症例に対して，最近本邦で保険適用となった．現在，HPVワクチンへの公費助成の開始や，検診へのHPV検査導入の議論が進むなど，子宮頸癌予防の動きに大きなパラダイムシフトがおとずれている．

The 2001 the Bethesda system classification for reporting cervical cytology was widely introduced in Japan in 2008.　This sysytem is being adopted for cervical cancer screening, and HPV-DNA testing is clinically used for the triage of ASC-US cases.　In addition, in 2011, HPV-DNA genotyping for CIN1/2 cases has just begun for distinguishing high risk HPV types from others.　Together with the commencement of HPV vaccination for young girls, at government expense, Japanese cervical cancer prevention is entering a paradigm shift to reduce the incidence and the mortality rate of cervical cancer.
