  • Look Inside

A case with tinnitus due to stapedius muscle contraction in a 30-year-old male is reported.

He had suffered from bilateral traumatic facial nerve paralysis by traffic accident. In the course of recovery from facial nerve paralysis, tinnitus and slight hearing impairment in his right ear appeared whenever he shut his mouth tightly. Audiometric examination revealed 20-10 dB loss of hearing in the right side and impedance audiogram revealed a stapedial reflex in the same side whenever he shut his mouth tightly. By cutting off the stapedius muscle, hearing acuity recovered and tinnitus was weakened.
