  • Look Inside

The clinical data from fifty-one patients with sudden deafness who visited our clinic withintwo weeks after the onset were analyzed.

Positional nystagmus was observed in 76% of all patients tested on the first visit. This fact indicated that this disease frequently caused pathology not only of the cochlea but also in the vestibulum.

From the analysis of the course of the positional nystagmus, the pathology of the vestibulum disappeared very quickly.

The relationship between the prognosis of the hearing loss and the vertiginous sensation was also analyzed, and no statistical significance was found. Also there was no consistent relationship between the existence of spontaneous nystagmus and the prognosis of the hearing loss.
