  • Look Inside

The present paper briefly described the resultsobtained by means of the questionnaire to 325 pediatricians, 272 in office and 53 in general hospital, asking their opinions of the indications for tonsillectomy.

The majority of them took the conservative attitude on removal of the tonsils. And they answered that an adequate age to receive tonsillectomy should be above five to six years.

With regard to the indication for the surgery, their attention was mainly given to the clinicalsymptoms such as recurrent acute tonsillitis, gross hypertrophy and infected tonsils related to swelling of the cervical lymphnodes or recurrent attacks of otitis media, and nephritis or rheumatic fever due to focal infection rather than findings obtained by physical examination.

Finally, it was especially emphasized by many pediatricians that otolaryngologists should set the standadization of the proper indication for tonsillectomy.
