 Mukuno and associates warn with precautions against tonsillectomies in tuberculosis patients particulary, those that might be performed during the active stage of the disease. Of the 577 cases of institutionalized tuberculosis patients examined tonsillectomy was definitely and urgently indicated in 14. Operations were performed. Amodg this group of 14 cases 5 (35.7 %) showed worsening of conditions by dissemination and aggravation of lesions to which the procedure of tonsillectomy could not be absolved as to having a direct connection. The authors strongly urge, as preliminary examination for tonsillectomy, the necessity of making a tuberculin test for elimnation of tuberculosis and careful observation of the ptaient postoperatively with due instructions in health measures. and with patients whose history reveal tuberculosis in the past tonsillectomay should be performed only at a time when the disease process is at the quiescent stage.
